Counter clerks assist a business’s customers by explaining products and services, documenting transactions and collecting payment. In addition to providing customer service, counter clerks greet business patrons, answer telephone inquiries from customers and prepare merchandise for sale. Counter clerk positions are generally entry-level jobs and require little to no formal education or prior experience. Candidates should have strong communication skills and a working knowledge of basic mathematics and money handling.
