Public school paraprofessional educators, also known as teacher assistants or instructional aides, take on other tasks that free teachers to spend more time teaching. Job Features

Paraprofessional educators provide students with individualized attention, assisting them with schoolwork and educational software programs. Many paraprofessional educator positions require only a high school diploma. Nevertheless, completing a college degree or coursework in child development improves job opportunities, advises the BLS. Those working in Title 1 schools, which are schools with a large percentage of students from low-income homes, are required to have some college background or proven academic skills. The PayScale salary survey website shows most workers with the title of education paraprofessional earn from $9.50 to $14.75 as of December 2010, although the median range for those with 20 years or more of experience reaches $20 per hour.
