Account service representative is similar to customer service representative. The main difference is that an account service representative may work in financial, banking, sales or for companies where personalized attention needs to be serviced towards answering questions and resolving issues with client’s individual accounts.

Description

Account service representatives answer phones and may sometimes make outbound calls to customers or clients about detailed information on a financial account. They may also handle client’s complaints. It is necessary to become familiar with various types of accounts within a company, because a customer/client will be seeking important feedback from the account service representative.

Responsibilities

An account service representative may be responsible for resolving customer/client issues. They will also research billing or payment inquiries. With account service representatives who are involved in sales, they may be required to up sell or educate customers/clients on various financial products and services. Account service representatives will follow up with customer/clients questions and escalate any unusual issues to a supervisor or team lead. Account service representatives will spend most of their work time in front of a computer and on the phone.

Qualifications

Companies will require that account service representatives have previous on the job training and a work history as a previous account or customer service representative. A year minimum is ideal. Account service representatives who work in banking and financial may be required to have a college degree or more than 1 year of job training.

Experience

Prior experience working with computer applications that have various tabs, screens, and data entry fields will be ideal. Account service representatives will have to navigate from one screen to another and will have to talk and type, or talk and write simultaneously. It will be beneficial to type at least 25 words per minute. Lastly, the ability to effectively read and write English is important. This also will include knowledge of basic arithmetic skills.
