Working in food service be quite challenging and interesting. A server must be quick-thinking and have multi-tasking and people skills. A server can often work far fewer hours per week than she would in an office job and make a larger salary. Servers do not have to wait for a pay check as, in most places, they are tipped out in cash at the end of every shift. A server can expect to make an average of $20,000 to $25,00 per year, but in busier or finer establishments the earnings can be much more. Airport restaurants, resorts, cruise ships and casinos are all lucrative choices.

You could also train as a model and make a good wage in print ads or on a runway. There is an initial cash outlay for classes, photos and proper makeup and accessories, but for the right person this could be a highly lucrative career. It requires discipline, punctuality and the ability to follow directions well. Besides the stereotypical tall and thin models, there are also markets for plus-size and petite pregnant women. There are many modeling agencies that provide training at minimal cost and then locate work for individuals. A good model can expect to make a minimum of $25 per hour and up.

Many talent agencies specifically look for young women to work in promotions. This could include handing out wine samples in a wine shop, distributing information at a car show or assisting at a food show registration booth. While the pay can be quite high per hour, this type of work is inconsistent but can be a stepping stone to something better. It is also a great opportunity to network and meet diverse and interesting people. Promotional jobs can be found through talent agencies for $15 per hour or more.

There is a big difference between a baby sitter and a nanny. A baby sitter is short-term and usually paid by the hour. A nanny is usually paid a much higher salary and has many more benefits. She may have the use of a car, travel opportunities and live with the family, therefore having few personal expenses. This position does require patience, understanding and a love for children. Jobs like these can often be found through employment agencies that specialize in child care. Pay will vary widely depending on the employer and benefits.
