How to Get an Indiana Real Estate License

Indiana's state government eliminated the real estate "salesperson" status in 2014, and requires all real estate professionals in the state to get licensed as brokers. A big part of getting an Indiana real estate license is completing a 90-hour pre-licensing course. You must also pass three course exams and a state exam before finalizing the process.

Education and Training Requirements

You can take your 90-hour pre-license class from a number of approved education providers listed on the Indiana Real Estate Commission website. The course includes basic real estate practices and state property laws. After you complete the course, you must earn a 75 percent or better score on three separate course exams. Then, you must earn a 75 percent or better score on a state-based licensing exam.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

Indiana requires real estate licensees to be at least 18 and have a high school diploma or its equivalent to qualify as a broker. You must also pay the state exam and licensing fees. After getting a license, you have the option to join a local office of the National Association of Realtors to become a realtor.
