Duties
Individuals working as technical specialists are responsible for analyzing and designing solutions to networking issues, providing technical support to other departments, as well as troubleshooting, diagnosing and solving issues with both hardware and software.
Experience
Technical specialists are required to have experience working with software/hardware and a specific knowledge of computer networks, including security functions and design, network and software protocols, Cisco input/output routers, fiber-optic/copper-based networks, as well as configuring, diagnosing and testing all networking equipment.
Education
Educational requirements for technical specialists include a bachelor's degree in communications and a technical certificate and/or extensive coursework relating to computers or engineering.
Certification
Technical specialists are required to attain a Cisco Certified Network Associate, or CCNA, certificate before entering the career field.
