Pharmacy Technician Continuing Education Programs

Growth Trends for Related Jobs

According to PharmacyTechnicianCertification.com, pharmacy technicians must complete 20 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years in order to fulfill re-certification requirements. A variety of pharmacy technician CE programs are available to assist with this process, both online and in person. Some CE programs have no cost, while others require organizational membership or a fee.

National Pharmacy Technician Association

The National Pharmacy Technician Association (NPTA) is the largest professional pharmacy technician organization in the world. The NPTA has free CE programs for members, though non-members may take the courses for a fee.

Online CE offerings through NPTA include courses covering swine influenza, medical marijuana, stem cell research, overactive bladder, intercultural communication, drug research and legal liability issues for pharmacy technicians.

The NPTA also offers live CE programs at its headquarters in Houston, Texas. Participants receive packets with modules and study materials, then travel to the NPTA center for one or two days of classroom instruction and training. Continuing education programs such as IV certification and compound certification courses are offered monthly.
