Growth Trends for Related Jobs
Electrical engineering focuses on areas involving electricity, computers, and electronics, and careers in the field are available in power, control systems, telecommunications, signal processing, quality control and computer applications. In order to work in the electrical engineering field, individuals typically need to graduate with at least a bachelor's degree in the field. A master's degree and experience may be required to obtain management or research positions.
Software engineers are responsible for developing computer software programs. In order to write a program, software engineers need to develop the code that makes up the program. Before a program is finished, students need to test the program and examine it for errors. Engineers must have a strong understanding of various programming languages, such as Java, C++ and HTML. The programs are used to control robotics, operate computer systems, and for entertainment purposes.
Quality Control Engineer
Quality control engineers ensure that the products developed in the engineering and manufacturing field meet a certain level of quality and are safe for consumer use. These engineers use their knowledge of how machines and devices operate to ensure safety. To work as a quality control engineer, individuals evaluate and examine products through a series of steps to determine its quality. The primary objectives of quality control engineers are to prevent defects, cut down on costs, and improve the quality of products. Companies give quality control engineers specific standards by which they measure each product.
Project engineers combine elements from the electrical engineering and project management fields to lead a team of technical workers in the development of a specific product. In addition to leading these workers, project engineers must have a strong understanding of the technical disciplines involved within a project and be able to assist and answer questions from workers. Additional duties of a project engineer include ensuring projects remain within budget, are completed on time, and that the overall quality remains strong.
Field engineers use their knowledge of electrical engineering and mathematics to solve technical problems in the field. These engineering professionals are responsible for installing computer hardware, maintaining electrical devices and repairing electrical products. In order to work in this field, field engineers must perform research and learn about the development of different devices, machines and products. Field engineers may have to work on site and may work to improve buildings, dams, water supply systems and bridges.
