Cosmetology licenses are required for individuals who practice cosmetology in the state of Michigan. Cosmetology licensees often include hair dressers, salon owners, manicurists, pedicurists and other beauty facilitators.

In the state of Michigan, individual cosmetology licenses must be renewed every two years and expire on August 31 of that year. You can renew your state of Michigan Cosmetology License online through the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth for a cost of $48.

Receive your renewal notification in the mail. The Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth (DELEG) mails out renewal notification to every current cosmetology licensee 30 and 45 days before their license is set to expire. Once you have received your notification, you may go renew your Michigan cosmetology license online through the DELEG website.

Go to michigan.gov/elicense and click on the cosmetology link. It is located under the heading "DELEG e-License Links."

Log in to DELEG's MyLicense site with your username and password. From the MyLicense site, you will be guided through DELEG's specific instructions given to renew your license. Esentially, you will have to verify the license you are renewing and certify that your personal information is correct. Once you have done so, you will be able to pay online with a credit or debit card and your new license will be mailed to you.
