A letter of intent, most often known as a cover letter, is an integral part of the application process for any professional position. This letter is sent to a potential employer along with a resume or curriculum vitae and portfolio at the beginning of the process. The letter of intent introduces you to your potential employer. It describes your skills and past experience and why you are pursuing the job. The closing is essential for a lasting impression.

Include in the last paragraph a thank you for the person taking the time to read your letter and consider your application and resume.

List the primary way to contact you, what the best times are and how you are willing to proceed with the process. State that you are willing to meet with the employer or follow any conditions they deem necessary to proceed with the application process.

Express your gratitude for the opportunity to apply and reiterate briefly any important points from the rest of the letter. Mention that you look forward to hearing from them.

Close the letter with "Sincerely," and follow this with your printed name and your signature.

List below your signature your name, address, phone numbers and e-mail address.
