How to Become a Certified Hypnotherapist in Colorado
Hypnotherapy is a method of therapy in which behavior, emotional state and attitude is adjusted through sleep. Colorado is one of only four states in the United States that regulates the practice of hypnotherapy and requires hypnotherapists to be certified. There are only two ways to perform hypnotherapy in Colorado: by acquiring a license and by getting listed in Colorado's Unlicensed Psychotherapists database.
Apply to be listed in the Unlicensed Psychotherapists Database. Applying to be listed in this database will allow you to practice hypnotherapy without a license. You'll need to fill out all the necessary forms, including an application for database listing, affidavit for eligibility, proof of the highest degree of education received and proof of how much experience you have. You'll also need to complete the Mandatory Disclosure statement.
Take a jurisprudence exam for hypnotherapy, which covers the particulars of law pertaining to hypnotherapy and how these laws affect daily practice. You can download the mail-in jurisprudence exam from the website of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA); after you've completed the exam, mail it back to the DORA. The results of the exam will be mailed to you (it will take around 2 to 4 weeks to receive your exam results). A passing grade of 80 percent is deemed the minimum required knowledge to capably perform hypnotherapy.
Take a licensing course in hypnotherapy. Go to the Transpersonal Hypnotherapy Institute and the Colorado Coaching and Hypnotherapy Training Institute websites. These institutes offer hypnotherapy training. Classes cover the knowledge necessary for performing hypnotherapy, as well as a wide array of subjects connected with hypnotherapy such as transpersonal hypnosis, analytical hypnotherapy and hypno-healing. Basic techniques and fundamentals are contained within the structure of most licensing courses. Additional courses such as child hypnosis, pain relief in labor, and advanced methods can be taken as well.
Pass the exam at the end of the hypnotherapy training course, after which you'll receive a hypnotherapy license to practice in Colorado.
