A curriculum vitae, or CV, is an outline of your professional and educational experience. A CV differs from a resume in that it is required for positions in the academic field. While a resume is usually only a page long, a CV provides more detailed information on academic experience and accolades and can be longer, and positions overseas typically require a CV instead of a resume.
Open up your word processor and select a standard font such as Arial or Times New Roman. Type a centered header at the top of the page, making sure to include your full name, mailing address, phone number and email address.
Skip two lines and change the page alignment to the left side of the page. Type "Objective", skip another line and tab in. Type a brief statement outlining the type of position you are seeking.
Move your cursor down two more lines and type "Education." Skip a line, tab in and type a chronological list of your educational experiences and accolades beginning with the most recent. A CV is geared towards academic jobs and should include details like institution names, locations, dates attended, field of study, awards and accolades and degree or certificate earned.
Skip down two more lines and type "Practica" along the left side of the page. Type a chronological list of your professional experience as you did in step 3. Only include experience related in some way to the position you are applying for.
Move down two lines. Type "Skills," skip a line and tab in. Create a bullet list of the skills you possess that would be beneficial for the position you are applying for. Use short phrases instead of full sentences and choose action words whenever possible.
Skip two more lines and type "References." Skip a line, tab in and list two or more professional or academic references and contact information. Choose references with experience in the field you are applying for if possible, and make sure to obtain permission before listing individuals on your CV.
Be concise and specific. Most employers will only give your CV a few seconds of their time.
Highlight experiences and skills that are unique to you and will set you apart from other applicants.
Update your CV regularly, and change it as necessary to fit the needs of each potential employer.
Avoid generalities and cliches.
Only include hobbies and interests if they are directly related to the position you are applying for.
