Do you find it difficult to manage your obligations? If so, you are definitely not alone. Many people struggle every day with finding the right way to manage their time. Developing effective time management skills is a process, and it doesn’t happen overnight. It can be a hassle trying to manage your time between home, school and work, but with the appropriate time management skills, you can definitely accomplish all of your daily tasks.

Make a separate list of all of your responsibilities for home, school and work. Be sure to include items such as daily and weekly activities, duties, projects and appointments. For instance, you may choose to include things like doctor appointments, staff meetings at your job and regular household chores.

Prioritize your list of tasks. Take time to identify your most important obligations and put them at the top of your list. For example, buying groceries is an important task because you need food o survive. However, you may have more flexibility with certain chores such as mowing the lawn or spending time in your garden.

Purchase a calendar to help you better manage your time. Be sure to buy a calendar that provides you with an adequate amount of space to write down your entire schedule, with extra space for your notes and special reminders. Try to locate a calendar in the form of a daily/weekly planner or a professional organizer, or use an appropriate computer software program to make your own calendar.

Use your calendar to record all of your daily and weekly tasks. Be sure to include specific times and dates for all of your activities and tasks for home, school and work, and remember to list your priorities first on your calendar.

Make the proper adjustments to your schedule. For example, try to combine some of your personal errands, and ask family members to help out with the chores. Also, find out if you can get some extra help at work, or maybe you can complete some job duties with a co-worker or as a team project. And in regard to school, always complete your assignments in the order of importance, and do not wait until the last minute to study or write term papers. You should develop an effective study schedule so that you are constantly completing your assignments in a timely manner.

Review your calendar each day before you leave home. A quick review of your daily schedule will help to remind you of your important tasks for that day. It also gives you a chance to make any last-minute changes to your schedule before you begin your day.

Tip

Avoid procrastination, and try to complete all of your tasks in a timely manner. Don’t take on more responsibilities than you can handle.
