How to Become a Title Researcher
Companies and individuals hire title researchers to search, examine and determine the legal ownership of specific properties. Also known as title examiners, researchers investigate land, home and vehicle documentation to ascertain the need information. People holding this position can expect to make $45,000 to $55,000 annually. Title researchers may also operate as freelancers who work under contracts for a negotiated amount. To become a title researcher, you must meet certain collegiate requirements and have a willingness to enter the field in an entry-level position as a title clerk.
Earn a high school diploma or GED.
Present your diploma or GED to a local college and enroll in college courses. Study for an associate degree or bachelor's degree. Choose the appropriate field of study like real estate, paralegal or business administration. Complete your college courses.
Apply for a position as a title clerk. Gain at least three years' experience as a title clerk before applying for the position as title researcher. Alternatively, you could choose to freelance for banks and legal offices.
Study for and take any title researcher examinations offered by your state. Take the National Association for Land Title and Abstractors and receive certification. These type of voluntary programs gives your resume credibility.
