Non-profit organizations such as the American Cancer Society and the Humane Society of the United States employ marketing vice presidents, or those who perform similar functions, just as "for-profit" corporations do. Non-profit vice presidents, as their major corporate counterparts, oversee pricing, advertising and distribution in marketing departments, and develop strategies to increase donations and revenue. If you want to work as a non-profit marketing vice president, you'll need at least a bachelor's degree. In return, you can expect to earn a salary averaging more than $80,000 annually.

Salary and Qualifications

The average salary for a non-profit marketing vice president was $81,000 as of 2013, according to job site Simply Hired. To become a vice president in a non-profit organization, you need at least a bachelor's degree in marketing and a significant amount of experience -- 10 or more years experience in many cases. Other important qualifications include creativity and analytical, leadership, management, problem-solving, communication and decision-making skills.

Regional Salaries

According to Simply Hired, salaries in 2013 for non-profit marketing vice presidents varied most in the South, with the lowest salaries of $63,000 in Mississippi and highest of $127,000 in Washington, D.C. Those in the Northeast made $73,000 to $98,000 per year, respectively. If you worked as a non-profit marketing vice president in the West, you'd earn the most in Alaska or California at $91,000, or the least in Montana at $65,000. In the Midwest, you'd earn $63,000 in South Dakota or $86,000 in Minnesota, which represented the lowest and highest salaries in that region.

Contributing Factors

Non-profit marketing vice presidents usually earn more working for larger organizations than mid-sized or smaller ones. For example, small non-profit organizations in Washington, D.C. -- with $2.1 million to $5 million in annual revenues -- paid their marketing vice presidents and directors an average of $70,000 to $80,000 per year, according to 2010 data from The Chronicle of Philanthropy (the latest year it reported non-profit organization salaries). Mid-sized non-profit organizations, with revenues of $10.1 million to $20 million, paid their marketing vice presidents and directors $90,000 to $100,000, while the largest companies -- over $50 million in revenue -- paid $110,000 to $120,000 per year.

Job Outlook

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics doesn't forecast jobs for non-profit marketing vice presidents. It projects a 14 percent increase in jobs for marketing managers, including those in non-profit companies, which is on par with the national average for all occupations. A better indicator is that the number of non-profit organizations grew by 25 percent from 2001 to 2011, according to The Urban Institute. If this trend continues during the next decade, you may find more job opportunities as a non-profit marketing vice president.
