Each May, the American Nurses Association hosts National Nurses Week, which recognizes and honors nurses throughout the country. Communities and nurses can celebrate the week and spread the education of nursing through a variety of activities.
Awards Luncheon
Host a luncheon, recognizing nurses in the community. Ask community officials and those involved in the medical field to select the honored nurses. You can recognize nurses for a specific courageous act, their years of service or their commitment to furthering the nursing profession. Ask a local restaurant or catering company to donate food and ask businesses and organizations to donate gifts for the award recipients.
Spa Time
Provide nurses with stress relief. Recruit massage and cosmetology students to pamper nurses with massages and pedicures.
Comment Card Compilation
Collect comment cards from patients and their families about nurses. Compile the comments so everyone can read them. You can also print comments in a newsletter. Create a small booklet to distribution or a large collage to display on hospital or clinic walls of the positive comments.
Host A Health Fair
Organize a health fair. Recruit some nurses to educate the public about a specific health related topic. They can also provide blood pressure screenings or CPR demonstrations.
