A job as a receptionist can be a satisfying career if you enjoy meeting with people and being involved in a company on the front line. Many receptionists go on to other positions in the companies they work for, while others are content to continue working in a receptionist capacity. Whatever your objectives are, setting attainable goals in one of the most effective ways to get the most out of your role as receptionist.

Write down your objectives, along with the dates you estimate you can reach them. Set specific goals that will need to be achieved to reach your final objectives. This includes details regarding any specific training you may need to help achieve your objectives and a timeline for beginning and ending these goals. Some objective for a receptionist might be better office management skills, learning how to deal with the public more effectively and learning more about the products and services your company offers.

Draw a visual representation of your goals and objectives. Do this with a calender. Look at your list of objectives and goals and place them on the calender on the estimated dates where each goal will be accomplished. Consider using different colors to help you distinguish between daily, weekly and long-term goals.

Place your goals calender where you can refer to it daily, such as in the area where you handle most of your receptionist duties. This can help you stay focused on your daily goals as well as your long-term goals. This can be especially useful when you have goals that are time sensitive. Mark goals off of your timeline as you accomplish them.
