What Is an Insurance CSR?

An insurance CSR, or customer service representative, has one of the most important jobs in an insurance agency as the first point of contact for the customer. As an insurance CSR, you will spend a lot of time on the phone helping people.

Insurance CSR as a Career

As an insurance CSR, you may work at a call center or specialize in insurance quotes, claims, or sales and marketing.

Job Traits

An insurance CSR is a person who has the ability to remain calm in difficult situations and has strong problem-solving skills.

Job Duties

Insurance CSRs interact with customers, providing responses to inquiries about obtaining coverage, handling and resolving any complaints, and servicing existing accounts.

Insurance CSR Training

Most insurance CSRs obtain certification as a CISR, or Customer Insurance Service Representative. The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research offers the CISR designation.

Insurance CSR Salaries

As an insurance CSR, you can expect to earn anywhere from $25,000 to $35,000 annually, depending upon your experience.

Opportunities for Advancement

Many insurance CSRs become licensed agents to sell property, casualty, life or health insurance. There are excellent opportunities for advancement for insurance CSRs.
