What Kind of Personality Should a Gynecologist Have?
A gynecologist is a doctor who treats problems and diseases of the female reproductive system. He treats urinary tract and pelvic disorders, cancer of the cervix, and breast and hormonal problems. Often, the gynecologist is an obstetrician as well. This enables him to deliver babies and to provide prenatal and postpartum care to the mothers. A gynecologist treats the overall health of females, therefore many women use him as their primary care doctor.
Compassionate
The gynecologist must be a compassionate and kind human being in order to establish a rapport with her patients. This will allow her to give them effective help with their medical problems. The gynecologist may grow weary of listening to women list their symptoms, but to the individual it is a major concern and needs treatment.
Patience
The gynecologist must be patient. Embarrassment can prevent many women from fully discussing their gynecological and reproductive system difficulties with the doctor. The physician must ask the patient leading questions that get to the heart of the problem. Whether the patient is an elderly woman or a young teenager, it is often difficult to talk with a virtual stranger about problems of an intimate nature.
Respect
Many women are modest when discussing their gynecological or reproductive health. This results in a hesitation that may prevent the doctor from giving a thorough diagnosis. A gynecologist must be respectful to all of her patients in order to build trust and enable the patient to divulge her most private problems.
Detail Orientation
Gynecology covers the total health and well-being of a woman. The doctor must pay close attention to even the smallest details of the patient's problem, even if the patient feels it is unrelated. The ability to research the problem in a thorough manner will help her gain respect in the medical community and enable her practice to thrive.
