If you are interested in becoming a travel agent, and you reside in or are interested in moving to Georgia, then there are some things you should know. Travel agents in Georgia find employment with large corporations, small-to-midsize companies, established travel agencies or on their own as sole proprietors. The process of beginning a career as a travel agent is simple, but does require specialized education, preparation and a will to succeed.

Research educational opportunities. At a minimum, travel agents must possess a high school diploma or GED, but an associate or bachelor's degree in a related field will serve to make you more competitive in the industry. If you do not already have a travel-related degree, research degree programs.

Enroll in a degree program. Once you have done your research, find the best educational program for you and enroll.

Join a professional organization. Joining a travel agent-related organization will open up networking opportunities and give you a deeper understanding of the industry.

Apply for travel industry jobs or start your own business. After graduating from your degree program, you are ready to pursue your first position in the travel industry. Ask the contacts you made in your trade organization and at your school if they know of any open positions. If you are looking to start your own business, get references from your contacts, begin advertising and start planning trips.
