How to Join the MPAA. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), along with its international version, known as the Motion Picture Association (MPA), serves the film and television industry. This trade organization started in 1922 to promote a positive image of the movie industry. Today it continues that purpose through its work with movie ratings, copyright issues and film technology. Read on to learn how to join the MPAA.

Produce or distribute movies or television programs. Members of the MPAA come from companies involved in the entertainment industry. The six members that sit on the MPAA board of directors come from the six top studios: Paramount Pictures Corporation, Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, Universal City Studios LLLP, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc.

Contact the Office of the Chairman of the MPAA in Washington, D.C. at (202)293-1966. Other MPAA/MPA offices are located in Los Angeles, Brussels, Singapore, Toronto and Sao Paulo. The anti-piracy office of the MPAA is located in New York.

Apply for an internship with the MPAA. Available internships may have you working toward anti-piracy efforts or performing research. Internships offer interested college students a close look at the motion picture industry.

Look at other media organizations you might belong to for a connection to the MPAA. The MPAA joins forces with similar entertainment industry groups like the Recording Industry Association of America.

Join MPAA's efforts in education about copyright awareness, stopping piracy and working with parents to establish movie ratings.
