Most banners are made from computer-cut vinyl letters and logos which adhere to brightly colored nylon-reinforced vinyl cloth. These materials are economical, easy to manufacture, lightweight and available in bright, non-fading colors. When banners are stored properly, they are resistant to wrinkling. However, for banners which become wrinkled, a simple process will remove the wrinkles and get the banner ready for display.
Hang the banner in a warm area. Vinyl responds quickly to heat, and warm ambient temperatures will help release the wrinkles from the vinyl cloth easily.
Using a commercial steamer, hold the steam nozzle close to wrinkles in the banner's surface. Do not touch the nozzle to the banner; instead, hold the nozzle within 1/2 to 1 inch from the surface and slowly move the nozzle over the entire wrinkle. The warm steam will cause the material to relax and the wrinkle will fade gently away. If possible, apply the steam to the back side of the banner. Extreme heat could loosen the adhesive on any applied lettering.
Stretch the banner tightly when you hang it on display. By stretching the banner with attached strings, or by bolting the banner directly to a wall, the material will stretch, and any minor remaining wrinkles will disappear.
